Abstract: The lack of a dependable supply of high quality forage during summer is a major limitation to the profitability of ruminant livestock operations in the mid-Atlantic region. Cool-season perennial grasses predominate in the regionís pastures and hayfields. Warm-season species are often limited to volunteer annuals and perennials that lack productivity and/or palatability.
