Abstract: As CRP has generally been planted to taller species, not all grassland bird species have benefited. This paper examines the impact of CRP on grasshopper sparrows, a species that generally requires short, sparse grassland habitat. Using Breeding Bird Survey data, it appears as if grasshopper sparrows can benefit from CRP. However, long term trends are still negative, suggesting that CRP may not be able to offset these declines.
