Title: Research Technicians (2)

Duration: August 15, 2009 – August 14, 2010
Position Description: Research technicians (2) needed for project studying responses of northern bobwhite to large-scale habitat and harvest manipulations on a large WMA in the Mid-South. Field work will involve radio-telemetry on northern bobwhites (breeding season and hunting season), covey censuses, pre-harvest banding, habitat sampling, and point counts (if time permits). Technicians will be working together on the same study area in support of two MS students focused on bobwhite habitat selection/movement and population ecology.
Qualifications: Applicants should be motivated, have a good attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work cooperatively with others. The ideal candidate would have radio-telemetry and trapping experience with bobwhites, and familiarity with flora of the region; familiarity with habitat management is also helpful. Education in wildlife or a related field (BS or Associates degree) is desirable. A valid driver’s license is required.
Salary: $1400/month, housing will likely be provided on-site.

Position Description: M.S. research assistantships (2) available for graduate students studying responses of northern bobwhite to large-scale habitat and harvest manipulations on public land in the Mid-South. Field work will involve radio-telemetry on northern bobwhites (breeding season and hunting season), covey censuses, pre-harvest banding, habitat sampling, and point counts (if time permits). Both students will work together on the same study area. With respect to data analysis and thesis topics, one student will focus on habitat selection and movement and the other on population ecology (mortality, fecundity, population model).
Qualifications: Applicants should be motivated with a good attitude and a strong work ethic. Well-developed oral and written communication skills are desired and the ability to work cooperatively with others is required. The ideal candidate would have radio-telemetry and trapping experience with bobwhites, and familiarity with flora of the region; familiarity with habitat management is also desirable. Student focusing on population ecology should have strong quantitative background. All applicants should possess a B.S. in Wildlife Management or Forestry (or related field) and a valid driver’s license. A minimum GPA of 3.0 and GRE scores (Q+V) of 1000 are required.
Salary: $13,000 plus tuition waiver and health insurance.
